Tax Preparation for Low Income

Free Tax Help is a nationwide coalition of organizations dedicated to providing free tax preparation services. We partner with United Way Bay Area and the IRS to offer secure, high-quality assistance. All tax returns are prepared by trained, IRS-certified volunteers.

We help taxpayers maximize their refunds by ensuring they claim valuable cash-back tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Additional Child Tax Credit, Dependent Credit, Education Credits, and Child Care Credit.

California working families may be eligible for one or more tax credits.

Returning Dollars to Our Community

The IRS created the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to provide free tax preparation for low-income and at-risk taxpayers through the support of community partners and

volunteers. Our mission is to help individuals and families keep more of what they earn.

If your household earned less than $69,000 in 2025, you qualify to file your taxes at no cost through our free tax preparation program. You may e-file your federal and California returns for

free, and all services are provided by trained, IRS-certified volunteers.
