COMING SPRING 2025
This signature event directly benefits children, youth and families in Santa Clara County.
The inaugural “Toss for a Cause” Cornhole Tournament was first held in April, 2022 and has raised over a $130,000 for children, youth and family programs in Santa Clara County. This family- friendly event can also be used as an opportunity to bond with your colleagues or network with a new community, while at the same time supporting our underserved youth and neighbors. Guests will be able to play cornhole, taste craft beer, have some good food and take in sites from North America's largest outdoor bar. “Toss for a Cause” will continue to be a great success and we hope you can join us next year!
Catholic Charities of Santa Clara helps people of all cultures and beliefs rise up out of poverty and overcome the barriers to self-sufficiency and wellness. Leading 38 different programs with over 500 employees, supporting 2,500 students in our afterschool programs across 23 different sites and serving 86,000 clients annually. We are innovating to disrupt poverty—reimagining social justice, social service programs, both demonstrating and advocating for new methods and models to serve ALL people in an ever changing Santa Clara County.
The Colonel of Cornhole is hand selected each year and is recognized for their work dedicated to supporting the children, youth and families of Santa Clara County. The 2024 COC was Superintendent Juan Cruz who has made significant contributions to providing support to families within FMSD. During his tenure, he championed the openings of the Seven Trees and Shirakawa Family Resource Centers, effectively doubling the number of centers in the district from 2 to 4.
Additionally, Superintendent Cruz has played a pivotal role in leading the Franklin McKinley Children’s Initiative, serving on the Economic Development Committee. His leadership efforts have brought additional partners to the committee, strengthening the cradle-to-career pipeline for our community. Join us on Saturday, April 27th when we honor Juan Cruz!
Past honorees include Dan Wu, the former Executive Director of Charities Housing Services who was a leader in providing affordable housing for families and seniors for more than 25 years. Last year’s honoree was America Aguirre Gomez, the Managing Director of the CCSCC, CORAL afterschool program. America has been a CCSCC leader for more than 25 years as well and is a respected advocate for the 2,000+ students served by the CORAL program.
Stay tuned for more details about the Colonel of Cornhole for 2025!

About
This great event will provide a unique opportunity for community members to learn about Catholic Charities and the dedication focused on serving our children, youth and families in Santa Clara County.
Did you know PayPal Park is the home ground of the MLS San Jose Earthquakes AND BayFC? The soccer-specific venue was known as Avaya Stadium when it opened in 2015. Light blue, dark blue, and grey chairs (the Earthquake’s colors) span the seating area. Interestingly, the color pattern contains the binary-coded message “GO EQ.” It IS in Silicon Valley. A lucky fan figured out the code and won a trip to the 2018 World Cup Final!
