This signature event directly benefits children, youth and families in Santa Clara County.
The inaugural “Toss for a Cause” Cornhole Tournament was first held in April, 2022 and has raised over a $150,000 for children, youth and family programs in Santa Clara County. This family-friendly event can also be used as an opportunity to bond with your colleagues or network with a new community, while at the same time supporting our underserved youth and neighbors. Guests will be able to play cornhole, taste craft beer, have some good food and take in sites from North America's largest outdoor bar. “Toss for a Cause” will continue to be a great success and we hope you can join us next year!
Catholic Charities of Santa Clara helps people of all cultures and beliefs rise up out of poverty and overcome the barriers to self-sufficiency and wellness. Leading 38 different programs with over 500 employees, supporting 2,500 students in our afterschool programs across 23 different sites and serving 100,000 clients annually. We are innovating to disrupt poverty—reimagining social justice, social service programs, both demonstrating and advocating for new methods and models to serve ALL people in an ever changing Santa Clara County.
Catholic Charities would not be what it is today without advocates and supporters like our Colonel’s of Cornhole. Their dedication to our mission to alleviate, reduce, and prevent poverty in Santa Clara County has been instrumental in raising awareness, raising funds, and raising the stakes on the work we do.
Starting in 2022, the Inagural Colonel of Cornhole was Dan Wu who in short has been instrumental in developing over 1400 units of affordable housing in the valley over the past (26+) years with our sister company, Charities Housing Services. In 2023 we honored our very own America Aguirre Gomez, Managing Director, has led the CORAL (Communities Organizing Resources to Advance Learning) program and has been a beacon of hope for the children, youth and families for more than 25 years. In addition, we had the privilege of honoring Superintendent Juan Cruzin 2024 who has been the champion for families within the Franklin McKinley School District.
Most recently, we had the chance to honor John Hogan with Excite Credit Union who has been partnering with our Children’s Initiative and Financial Literacy teams since 2023 to educate families about enrolling in Cal KIDS savings accounts for their children’s futures. Thus leaving some big shoes to follow for the 2025 Colonel of Cornhole and in honor of the 5th annual event. Stay tuned!

About
This great event will provide a unique opportunity for community members to learn about Catholic Charities and the dedication focused on serving our children, youth and families in Santa Clara County.
Did you know PayPal Park is the home ground of the MLS San Jose Earthquakes AND BayFC? The soccer-specific venue was known as Avaya Stadium when it opened in 2015. Light blue, dark blue, and grey chairs (the Earthquake’s colors) span the seating area. Interestingly, the color pattern contains the binary-coded message “GO EQ.” It IS in Silicon Valley. A lucky fan figured out the code and won a trip to the 2018 World Cup Final!
